Brick Store Museum's 6th Annual History Camp

program iconSaturday, July 18, 2009
Program runs 9:45 AM - 3 PM
Calling all kids ages 8 to 12, our 6th annual History Camp is like no other! One-of-a-kind camp activities are developed especially for this day and are based upon the Museum's  current and upcoming exhibitions, including: Salon Style: Fine Art from the 1830s to the 1920s, Quilts from the Collections of the Brick Store Museum, and Celebrating 35 Years of Kennebunk's National Register Historic District.

Campers will immerse themselves in the world of early American portraiture, learn about itinerant painters and their unique techniques, and even use some 21st-century technology to fashion themselves for a 19th-century portrait sitting.  Next up is a walk through a section of Kennebunk's historic district--the first in Maine!--to see the various elements and styles that make it so special. Campers will then have an opportunity to re-create one of the historical homes as an architectural model, complete with a write-up of its storied past.  Last is a chance to let creativity shine by designing and piecing a quilt square based upon the amazing patterns found on quilted masterpieces in the Museum's collections.

The camp concludes with family members and the general public invited to the Museum from 2:30 to 3PM to view the campers' projects and to tour the exhibitions. As lasting memories of the day, campers take home everything they have created.

Pre-registration is required by July 11. CLICK HERE to download and print the registration form (in PDF format, 425k), or contact the Museum at 207.985.4802.  Cost is $30/child ($25 for Museum members) and includes a snack and all supplies.

Program made possible by the Museum's Education Committee and the Dorothy Fish Fund for Furthering Edith Barry's Legacy.
